Muscatine Coach Dennis Schuur was named the national softball coach of the year Wednesday by the High School Athletics Coaches Association, the Quad City Times reported.

Schuur has guided Muscatine to 11 state tournament appearances in 22 seasons. The Muskies are 20-4 and ranked No. 3 in Class 4A this season.

Schuur has a 27-year softball coaching record of 928-232. He is the 11th Iowa coach to win the honor and all 11 have more than 900 career wins. Jefferson Coach Larry Niemeyer tops the list with more than 2,000 victories.
