Girls state swim meet at Marshalltown through 2017

The Board of Directors of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union unanimously approved the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA as the host venue of the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet through the 2017 season at its September 11 meeting.

“We are very pleased that Marshalltown will be the home for the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving meet for another five years,” said IGHSAU Executive Director Mike Dick. “The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is an outstanding facility and we have a wonderful working relationship with their outstanding staff.”

The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA has hosted the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet since it opened in January of 2004.

Saints climb to 6th in Register poll

The Xavier Saints climbed from No. 7 to No. 6 in the Des Moines Register's Class 4A football rankings Sunday morning.

The Saints (3-0) walloped Prairie, 48-14, Friday night in a battle of unbeatens.

Ankeny replaced Cedar Falls atop the 4A poll. The Tigers are second, followed by Dowling, Bettendorf and Iowa City West.

Saints stay 7th in Register football poll

The Xavier Saints remained in seventh place in the Des Moines Register Class 4A football rankings this week after pounding Jefferson, 49-0, Thursday night.

Xavier (2-0) visits Prairie (2-0) this Friday night in a battle of unbeaten Mississippi Valley Conference teams.

Cedar Falls is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, followed by Ankeny, Dowling, Bettendorf and Iowa City West.

The Marion Indians, ranked No. 4 last week in the Register's Class 3A poll, dropped out of the rankings after losing to top-ranked Decorah, 35-0, Friday night.

Saints climb to 10th in volleyball poll

The Xavier Saints jumped from 12th to 10th in the Class 4A volleyball rankings Thursday after beating Linn-Mar Tuesday night in straight sets.

The Marion Indians remained in 14th place in the Class 4A poll. Sioux City Heelan is ranked No.1.

Kennedy fell from No. 2 to No. 9 in the Class 5A rankings after beginning the season with a 1-3 record against tough competition. Iowa City High, which defeated the Cougars Tuesday night, is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A.
