Washington and Kennedy trade places in soccer poll

Washington and Kennedy traded places in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association boys Class 3A poll released Thursday.

Washington moved up two spots to No. 14 and Kennedy dropped two to 16th.

Xavier is No. 7 in Class 2A.

The boys soccer substate tournaments start Monday.

Linn-Mar up to No. 5 in girls soccer poll

Linn-Mar moved up three spots to the No. 5 ranking in this week's Class 3A girls soccer poll released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Linn-Mar (10-2) traded places with Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the rankings. The Cougars (9-3) dropped from No. 5 to No. 8.

Xavier continues to be the top-ranked team in Class 2A. The Saints are 11-2.

Prairie (11-4) held onto the No. 11 spot in the 2A poll.

Ankeny (13-0) is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and Davenport Assumption is top-ranked in Class 1A.

Strellner tosses gem as Kohawks win title

Ben Strellner pitched the best game of his career for Coe College Saturday afternoon.

His timing was perfect.

Strellner tossed a complete game as the Kohawks tamed Buena Vista, 4-1, in the championship game of the Iowa Conference tournament at Veterans Memorial Stadium to earn the league's automatic berth in the NCAA regional tournament.

Metro teams hold spots in girls soccer polls

All four Metro girls soccer teams maintained their spots in this week's Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union polls released Wednesday.

Xavier is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and Prairie is No. 11 in 2A.

Kennedy is ranked fifth and Linn-Mar eighth, respectively, in Class 3A.

All four held the same spots in last week's polls.

Ankeny is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and Davenport Assumption is No. 1 in Class 1A.
