Xavier drops to No. 3 in Class 2A boys soccer

Xavier fell out of the top spot in the Class 2A boys soccer poll released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association ranking.

The Saints dropped two spots to No. 3 and were replaced atop the poll by Dubuque Wahlert. The Golden Eagles beat Xavier, 3-2 in overtime, Tuesday at Dubuque.

Jefferson moved up to No. 12 in the Class 4A poll and Washington popped back into the rankings at No. 16. Kennedy fell out of the poll.

Bettendorf moved to the top of the Class 3A poll. The Bulldogs replaced Iowa City West, which dropped to No. 3 after last week's 3-2 loss to Washington.

Prairie breaks into Class 2A girls rankings

Xavier remained atop the Class 2A poll and Prairie broke into the ranks at No. 15 in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girls soccer rankings released Thursday.

Prairie's only loss is to Xavier. The Hawks (2-1) blanked Iowa City High, 4-0, Tuesday to stake their claim in the poll.

Kennedy (3-0) is still ranked No. 6 in Class 3A and Washington held onto its No. 9 ranking, despite a 3-0 loss to No. 5 Iowa City West on Tuesday.

Xavier up to No. 1 in boys soccer poll

Cedar Rapids Xavier moved up to the top spot in the Class 2A poll in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings released Wednesday.

The Saints (1-2-1) moved up from the No. 2 spot despite a shootout loss Tuesday night at Waterloo West. The Wahawks are ranked 11th in Class 3A.

Iowa City West (4-1) held onto the top spot in Class 3A, despite a double-overtime loss to Cedar Rapids Washington Monday night at Kingston Stadium. The Warriors (2-3) were among teams receiving votes.

Kennedy (0-2) dropped from No. 6 to No. 13 in the poll. Jefferson (3-2) is tied for No. 16. The J-Hawks beat the Cougars in double overtime Tuesday night at Kennedy.

Jefferson plays at Xavier on Thursday and Kennedy travels to Class 2A No. 2 Dubuque Wahlert. Washington is at No. 6 Iowa City High, Prairie at No. 8 Cedar Falls and Linn-Mar at No. 15 Dubuque Senior.

Saints drop to 2nd in Class 2A boys soccer poll

The Xavier boys fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in the latest Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association poll released Tuesday.

Xavier was beaten by Class 3A No. 5 Bettendorf and tied with Class 2A No. 9 Pella on Saturday in the Waukee tournament to open the season. The Saints were missing eight players, including four starters, who were away on spring break.

Norwalk replaced Xavier atop the 2A poll and garnered eight first-place votes. Xavier got four first-place votes.

Kennedy is ranked No. 6 in the Class 3A poll and Marion is No. 16 in the 2A poll. Jefferson, Washington and Prairie were among the 3A teams receiving votes.

Iowa City West is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and Iowa City Regina is No. 1 in Class 1A.
