Lions, Saints keep spots in poll

Linn-Mar and Xavier remained ranked eighth and 10th in the Associated Press Iowa high school football Class 4A poll.

Linn-Mar and Xavier are the only Metro teams ranked in the top 10. Washington and Marion are the only other Metro team that received votes. The Indians (2-0) would be tied for 11th in the 3A poll. Washington (2-0) received four points in the 4A poll and would be tied for 13th with Marshalltown.

Linn-Mar (2-0) and Xavier (2-0) both travel to Dubuque for games Friday. Linn-Mar plays Wahlert (2-0) at Loras and Xavier plays Hempstead (0-2) at Dalzell Field.

Cedar Falls and Iowa City High are ranked 1-2 in the Class 4A poll. West Des Moines Valley is No. 3.

Sioux City Heelan is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and Iowa City Regina is top ranked in 2A.

Kennedy holds onto 3rd in volleyball poll

Kennedy is ranked third in Class 4A and Marion 10th in Class 3A in the  Iowa Girls High School High School Athletic Union volleyball poll released Thursday.

Ankeny is ranked No. 1 and Iowa City High No. 2 in Class 4A. Defending state champion Iowa City West slid from No. 4 to No. 7 and MVC member Cedar Falls is No. 8.

Marion is one of five Wamac Conference teams ranked in the Class 3A top 15. Other Wamac teams are Williamsburg (3), West Delaware (7), Solon (8) and Maquoketa (12).

Sioux City Heelan is ranked No. 1 in 3A, Western Christian in 2A and Tripoli in 1A.
