Cedar Valley Christian - Boys Basketball

Cedar Valley boys roll past Unity Christian

The Cedar Valley Christian boys played a couple of games early in the season when the 35-point rule came into play and the clock ran  continuously.

They lost both times by big scores.

On Saturday night in the first of their two home games this season, however, the Huskies jumped all over Unity Christian of Fulton, Ill., 64-31, with the clocking running at the end.

"It feels good," said Cedar Valley Coach Jeff Pospisil, whose team is now 7-6 in its first season playing in the Iowa boys athletic association. "This is the first game we've won that hasn't been close.

"And we didn't press or play run-and-gun, either. Just little by little in the second half, we started building the lead."

Using his whole bench on senior night and taking advantage of a balanced attack, the veteran coach saw his Huskies take a 35-22 halftime lead. They kept up the pace the final 16 minutes while limiting the visitors to just nine points.

"We switched to a zone defense in the second half and they weren't able to adjust," said Pospisil. "And we were playing with a lot of intensity and confidence."

He said the Huskies became a little sluggish in the last four minutes of the first half. "Other than that, this was the best we've played all year," Pospisil said.

Will Muhlbach led his Cedar Valley with 15 points. David Sperling added 12, and Jon Landis and Jeremy Strutz each had 10.

Cedar Valley plays next at home Feb. 6 against Waterloo Christian.
