Hembera fouls out in near-miss for CVC

SPRINGVILLE - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team, seeking its first victory of the season, trailed Calamus Wheatland by only one point with four minutes left in their ballgame Tuesday night in Springville.

Unfortunately for Cedar Valley, Shelby Hembera fouled out at that point and the Huskies dropped a 43-35 affair.

Hembera finished with 31 points and 20 rebounds for Cedar Valley (0-16, 0-8). The Huskies led at halftime for the first time all season, 22-21.

Hembera nets all 27 for Huskies

SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera scored all 27 of her team's points Friday night as Cedar Valley Christian lost to Maquoketa Valley, 73-27, at Springville.

Hembera, a 6-foot junior, leads the state in scoring at 32.5 points per game, but the Huskies have lost all 15 of their contests this season.

Brooke Wooten scored 15 points for Maquoketa Valley (14-1).

Hembera has huge game for Huskies

SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera collected 40 points, 19 rebounds, six blocks, three steals and two assists for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team Thursday night in a 61-44 loss to Alburnett.

"It wasn't her career high, but it was the best game of her career," said CVC Coach Craig Foote. "That's better than LeBron James' best game this year and he gets 16 extra minutes."

The 17-point loss was the closest game of the year for the Huskies, who fell to 0-14.

BELLEVUE - Shelby Hembera scored 21 points Tuesday night as Cedar Valley Christian lost to Bellevue Marquette, 70-23, in Bellevue.
