Cedar Valley girls fall at East Buchanan

WINTHROP - East Buchanan held Shelby Hembera to 11 points Saturday and defeated Cedar Valley Christian, 45-31, in a girls basketball game in Winthrop.

Izzy Hoffman scored 10 points for the Huskies (1-7).

Andrea Hughson led East Buchanan (3-9) with 15 points.

CEDAR VALLEY (31): Hembera 4 3-3 11, Fields 0 0-0 0, Slagle 0 0-0 0, Hoffman 3 4-6 10, Cach 3 0-1 6, Eniola 2 0-3 4. Totals 12 7-13 31.

Hembera nets career-high 35 in loss

Cedar Valley Christian’s Shelby Hembera, the Metro girls leading scorer, notched a career-high 35 points Friday night as the Huskies dropped a hard-fought contest to Alburnett, 60-52.

The sophomore post, who led the Metro with a 19.7 average to start the second half of the season, also had six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and three assists. She scored 21 of the Huskies’ first 24 points.

Alburnett led 20-17 at the half and never trailed after that.

A 3-point basket by Izzy Hoffman pulled the Huskies to within two points, 44-42, with five minutes to go in the final period. But CVC couldn’t overcome a barrage of threes by the Pirates’ Kathy Sorenson, who drained four treys in the second half.

The Huskies’ Lindsay Cach pulled in 14 rebounds and had nine assists.

The Pirates were led by freshman Taylor Huber with 18 points.

CEDAR VALLEY (52): Hembera 16 3-4 35, Slagle 1 0-0 2, Hoffman 2 0-0 6, Cach 1 0-2 2, Eniola 3 1-2 7. Totals 23 4-6 52.

ALBURNETT (60): Huber  8 2-3 18 , Miller 6 1-2 13,  Freeland 2 0-2 4, Sorensen  4 1-2 13, Volesky 3 0-1 6, Wilson-White 3 0-0 6, Martin-Enos 0 0-0 0, Wehrkamp 0 0-0 0. Totals 26 4-10 60.

Cedar Valley girls tumble at Central City

CENTRAL CITY - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team shot less than 20 percent from the floor Monday night and lost at Central City, 40-27.

"We just couldn't buy a bucket," reported Coach Craig Foote, who said his team shot 9 for 46.

Shelby Hembera led the Huskies with 17 points. Ashley Iehl scored 12 points for Central City.

CEDAR VALLEY (27): Hembera 5 7-11 17, Slagle 1 0-0 2, Hoffman 1 0-0 2, Cach 1 1-2 3, Eniola 1 1-2 3. Totals 9 9-15 27.

CENTRAL CITY (40): Edwards 1 0-0 2, Nielsen 4 3-4 11, Iehl 6 0-2 12, Wright 3 2-2 8, Koehn 1 1-2 3, Kellogg 2 0-0 4, Malone 0 0-0 0, Appelhans 0 0-0 0. Totals 17 6-8 40.

Cedar Valley girls win 1st game of season

SHELLSBURG -- Shelby Hembera poured in 24 points Saturday to help the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team defeat Dunkerton, 48-30, for its first victory of the season.

Lindsey Cach made three 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the Huskies (1-4).

"The girls played great," Coach Craig Foote reported.

Dani Reicherts led Dunkerton (4-4) with eight points.

CEDAR VALLEY (48): Hembera 10 3-4 24, Fields 0 0-0 0, Slagle 1 0-0 2, Hoffman 1 2-3 4, Cach 5 3-4 16, Eniola 1 0-0 2. Totals 18 8-11 48.

DUNKERTON (30): Bienfang 1 0-0 2, Rottinghaus 2 0-0 6, Duncan 1 0-0 2, Dodge 1 0-0 2, Kimball 1 2-6 4, de Neui 2 2-4 6, Reicherts 4 0-0 8. Totals: 12 4-10 30.

Cedar Valley girls topped by Northeast

SHELLSBURG -- Addie Oberman tossed in 24 points Tuesday night as Northeast Goose Lake (6-1) defeated Cedar Valley Christian, 59-25, in a girls basketball game in Shellsburg.

Shelby Hembera scored 13 points for Cedar Valley (0-4).

NORTHEAST GOOSE LAKE (59): McAleer 3 0-0 6, Delarm 0 1-2 1, Jargo 3 0-0 6, Schaefer 1 0-0 2, Oberman 10 0-2 24, Butler 7 2-2 16. Totals 26 3-6 59.
