Cedar Valley Christian’s Shelby Hembera, the Metro girls leading scorer, notched a career-high 35 points Friday night as the Huskies dropped a hard-fought contest to Alburnett, 60-52.
The sophomore post, who led the Metro with a 19.7 average to start the second half of the season, also had six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and three assists. She scored 21 of the Huskies’ first 24 points.
Alburnett led 20-17 at the half and never trailed after that.
A 3-point basket by Izzy Hoffman pulled the Huskies to within two points, 44-42, with five minutes to go in the final period. But CVC couldn’t overcome a barrage of threes by the Pirates’ Kathy Sorenson, who drained four treys in the second half.
The Huskies’ Lindsay Cach pulled in 14 rebounds and had nine assists.
The Pirates were led by freshman Taylor Huber with 18 points.
