Hembera climbs to 2nd in Metro scoring

SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Tuesday night as Cedar Valley Christian topped Prince of Peace, 52-42, ina Tri-Rivers Conference basketball game in Springville.

Hembera moved into second place on the career scoring chart for Metro girls 5-on-5 basketball players with 1,853 points. She passed Shelley Sheetz, who scored 1,831 points for Kennedy from 1987-91.

Anne O'Neil is the all-time leader with 2,494 points for Kennedy from 1996-2000.

Cedar Valley (7-3) led by only one point at halftime, 23-22. The Huskies opened a 15-point lead in the second half to secure the victory.

Freshman Molly Hembera scored 13 points for Cedar Valley. Krista Atkinson scored 14 points for Prince of Peace, which fell to 0-14.

PRINCE OF PEACE (42): Corpuz 1 0-0 3, Schnier 5 1-2 11, Atkinson 6 0-0 14, Divarco 3 2-4 8, Kuehn 3 0-0 6, Campbell 0 0-0 0. Totals 18 3-6 42.
