CVC's Sequeira makes all-tourney team

BELLEVUE - The Cedar Valley Christian volleyball team compiled a 1-4 record at the Bellevue Marquette tournament Saturday.

Maria Sequeira of Cedar Valley collected six kills and 10 assists and was named to the all-tournament team. Maggie Cach had eight kills and six assists.

The Huskies lost to Easton Valley (21-9, 21-11), Marquette (21-19, 21-13), Marquette again (21-12, 21-1) and Bellevue (21-7, 21-12). The Huskies defeated Prince of Peace, 21-18, 21-17, and finished fourth in the tournament.

Warriors, Lions tangle in 4A showdown

The resurgent Linn-Mar football team has gotten off to a 3-0 start, but the Lions will face their stiffest test of the season Friday night when the Washington Warriors invade Linn-Mar Stadium for a Class 4A non-district game.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on KCRG 1600-AM/107.5 FM.

Linn-Mar senior quarterback Ryan Schmidt has rushed for 152 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He also has passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns by hitting 19 of 35 passes.

Speedster Perrion Scott has carried the ball 26 times for 287 yards. He scored three touchdowns in the first quarter last week in an easy win at Clinton.

Logan Benter, a running back and linebacker for the Lions, missed last week's game with a leg injury, but is expected back this week.

Cedar Valley sweeps Prince of Peace

Maria Sequeira collected six kills and five assists Tuesday night as the Cedar Valley Christian volleyball team swept Prince of Peace, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19, at home.

Maggie Cach had eight assists and four kills for the Huskies. Shelby Hembera also had four kills.

Grace Etzel contributed six digs and four aces. Emma Slagle had five digs.

Ulmer sets records for Cedar Valley

MOUNT VERNON - Kenan Ulmer passed for 315 yards and four touchdowns Friday night as Cedar Valley Christian lost to Central City, 58-36, in an 8-Player football game at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.

Ulmer set school records with his 315 yards and four TDs. He completed 23 of 56 passes and had three interceptions.

Eric Gustafson caught seven passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Tom Scroggs caught five passes for 58 yards and one touchdown. Scroggs also scored on an 18-yard interception return and caught a two-point conversion pass.

Travis Geels had four catches for 66 yards and Collin Heeren had four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Eric Gustafson collected 21 tackles and Drew Gustafson had 13 tackles. They both had three tackles for losses. Scroggs made nine tackles.

Cedar Valley trimmed by Central City

CENTRAL CITY - The Cedar Valley Christian volleyball team dropped a marathon match against Central City in the Tri Rivers Conference Thursday night.

Central City prevailed in five sets, 10-25, 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 15-10, after the Huskies rolled in the opening game.

Maria Sequeira collected 11 assists and five kills for Cedar Valley. Shelby Hembera had seven kills and three blocks. Maggie Cach contributed seven kills, seven assists and four aces.
