No.13 Eagles stumble at home

The Kirkwood men's basketball team entered Wednesday night's contest against Marshalltown with a perfect 8-0 record at home and an impressive scoring average of 86.3 points per game, but the Eagles can kiss those numbers goodbye.

Marshalltown dominated the 13th-ranked Eagles much of the night and spanked the home team, 66-51, in a non-conference affair at Johnson Hall.

It was Kirkwood's worst margin of defeat this season and its lowest output of the year by 20 points.

Oh, Henry! Subs help Kirkwood prevail

Everybody on the Kirkwood men's basketball team is cheering for Henry Uwadiae, a 6-foot-11 center from Nigeria who rarely gets to play for the Eagles.

Saturday, Big Henry gave his teammates something to cheer about.

Uwadiae and the rest of Kirkwood's bench brigade played important roles as the 16th-ranked Eagles defeated No.8 DMACC, 82-75, in a foul-plagued junior college basketball game at Johnson Hall.

Uwadiae had a big left-handed dunk that brought his teammates to their feet, blocked two shots and did a creditable job in the middle of a 2-1-2 zone defense with his long arms.

"He sparks our team," said Kirkwood Coach Bryan Petersen. "When Henry does something like that, it sparks our team. I was proud of Henry's effort."

No.16 KCC men give themselves a hand

Kirkwood Coach Bryan Petersen and his assistants huddled in a hallway at Johnson Hall Tuesday night for about five minutes to discuss their team's performance against Iowa Central before entering the locker room.

As soon as they opened the locker room door, all of the Eagles broke into applause to celebrate a good victory.

The 16th-ranked Eagles passed the ball extremely well Tuesday and handled Iowa Central, 73-59, in the ICCAC opener.
