Fuller, Lawton pace No.11 Eagles by SCC

Kirkwood sophomore J.C. Fuller calls it simply "just a 360," but there was nothing simple about his crowd-pleasing dunk Saturday afternoon when he spun 360 degrees in mid-air and slammed the ball through the basket.

It was simply outstanding and put an exclamation point on a big victory as the 11th-ranked Eagles stung Southeastern Community College, 79-68, at Johnson Hall.

Fuller's slam came with 2:15 left in the nip-and-tuck affair and gave Kirkwood (8-3) some room to breathe at 75-63.

Kirkwood men feast on Black Hawk

Before that good home-cooking on Thanksgiving, the Kirkwood men's basketball team enjoyed some home-cooking on Tuesday, beating Black Hawk 81-65 in Johnson Hall.

The Eagles built a 42-25 halftime lead, but the Braves whittled it down to five in the second half before Kirkwood (7-2) turned things around.

"They are a good team and I thought we had a lot of letdowns on defense," sophomore guard Taylor Olson said. "Turnovers too. A lot of breakdowns. We weren't mentally tough during that run."

Kirkwood men shoot down Lincoln, 102-76

Led by sophomore guards J.C. Fuller and Taylor Olson, Kirkwood avenged one its two losses with a 102-76 thumping of Lincoln (Ill.) College Friday night at Johnson Hall.

Fuller scored a game-high 21 points while Olson added 18.  Nine of Fuller's points came from the charity stripe in 10 attempts and Olson hit on 7 of 8 free throws. There were 49 fouls called and 72 free throws shot in the game.

“We just attacked on offense and took advantage of what they gave us,” said Fuller.  “If we are aggressive on offense and concentrate on our defense we gain a big advantage at the free throw line.”

Tagarelli helps Eagles top Coe JV

Most of the basketball players at Kirkwood Community College dream about joining an NCAA Division I team some day.

Joseph Tagarelli has been there and hopes to get back.

Tagarelli spent the 2012-13 campaign as a walk-on at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, but things did not work out for him and he transferred to Kirkwood this year.

From the look of things so far, he might get another shot at a D-I school in the future.

Tagarelli scored 18 points in 15 minutes Wednesday night as the 16th-ranked Eagles bopped the Coe junior varsity, 99-62, at Johnson Hall.
