Paige Zahner belted a three-run homer to help the Coe softball team defeat Buena Vista, 7-4, in the first game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader at Clark Field Tuesday.
Buena Vista took the second game, 9-6.
Zahner went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the victory. Maliah Fligg had two hits and Ali Givens scored two runs. Arran Weeces (9-2) pitched a complete game for the victory.
Zahner and Gretchen Lilienthal had three hits apiece for Coe in the second game. That made Zahner 5-for-7 in the doubleheader. Erin Lang had two hits for the Kohawks. Haley Smith and Lilienthal drove in two runs.
The Kohawks took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap, but could not hold on.
The split left Coe at 15-7 overall and 1-1 in the league. Buena Vista is 10-11 overall and 1-1.
