Laveechie Williams of Cedar Rapids Washington is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
Williams, a 6-foot-5 senior, has blossomed into one of the top basketball players in the Mississippi Valley Conference this season. He is averaging a double-double with 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game despite playing with a broken nose.
Williams averaged 4.8 points and 4.8 rebounds as a junior last year, but he's been a major force for Washington in the first five games this season. He's scored 18, 17, 15 and 13 points in games this year and has enjoyed outings with 14, 11 and 11 rebounds.
Williams leads the Mississippi Valley Conference in rebounding at 10.2 per game and ranks fourth in Class 4A.
