ALTUS, Okla. - The 10th-ranked Kirkwood baseball team traveled to western Oklahoma in search of warmer weather Friday and lost to eighth-ranked Western Oklahoma State College, 11-1, in seven innings.
Western Oklahoma State (16-2) scored five runs in the second inning and tacked on five more runs in the seventh inning to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
Kirkwood (2-2) collected only five hits. Zion Pettigrew hit a double and D'Eric Shenault had a triple.
The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
