LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Mount Mercy baseball team swept a Heart of America Conference doubleheader Monday from Baker University, 9-3 and 4-3 in 10 innings.
The twin-killing lifted the Mustangs to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Chili Moseley, Kobi Candaroma and Corbin Day had two hits in the 9-3 victory in Game 1. Tito Berdecia and Day had two RBIs. Moseley and Michael Perry scored twice.
Jake Faur pitched 6 1/3 strong innings for the Mustangs to collect the victory in the opener. He allowed three runs on four hits.
Evan Jackson went 4-for-5 for Mount Mercy in the 4-3 victory in the nightcap. Moseley, Nick Sueppel and Candaroma had three hits. Austin Hilpipre scored two runs. The Mustangs had 17 hits in the ballgame, but left 14 runners on base in the 10-inning affair.
Blake Willenborg tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on five hits and no walks as the starting pitcher. Brady Donohue got the victory with one inning of spotless relief in the top of the 10th.
Monday’s games were originally scheduled for Cedar Rapids, but were moved to Lawrence, Kan., due to weather and playing conditions. Mount Mercy was the home team in both games.
Baker fell to 7-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
