A little overnight snow could not stop the Mount Mercy baseball team Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs enjoyed the comforts of their artificial turf at the Plaster Athletic Complex and dumped Culver-Stockton, 13-3, in a Heart of America Conference game.
Blake Willenborg pitched four shutout innings as the Mustangs jumped to a 12-0 lead. Culver-Stockton finally got to Willenborg for three runs in the fifth, but by then it was too late as he raised his record to 3-0 for the campaign.
Parker Johnson went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs for Mount Mercy. Evan Jackson, Nick Sueppel, Tito Berdecia and Kobi Candaroma all had two hits for the Mustangs.
Mount Mercy won the three-game series, 2-1, and raised its records to 8-11 overall and 5-6 in the conference. Culver-Stockton fell to 5-13 overall and 1-4 in the league.
The game was originally scheduled at Culver-Stockton, but the weekend series was shifted to Mount Mercy due to field conditions. Mount Mercy served as the visiting team on its home field.
