Levi Usher went 5-for-8 Wednesday afternoon to help the Kirkwood Eagles sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Marshalltown, 13-3 and 11-10, at the Kirkwood field.
The twin-killing lifted the Eagles to 14-8 for the campaign.
Zion Pettigrew continued his hot hitting for Kirkwood by going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the 13-3 victory, which ended in the bottom of the sixth by the mercy rule when the Eagles scored seven runs.
Usher, Taylor Jackson and Brennan Brister had two hits in Game 1. Usher, Jackson, Pettigrew and Kal Youngquist scored twice. Jackson, Brister and Jackson Bennett had two RBIs.
Lecari Elion allowed three runs in five innings in the opener for the victory.
Pettigrew, Usher and Jackson belted home runs in the 11-10 victory in the nightcap. Usher was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Jackson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Pettigrew and Austin Krob scored twice.
Kirkwood built an 11-1 lead after four innings and held on for the 11-10 victory when Marshalltown scored nine runs in the last three innings.
