The Kirkwood softball team was able to take a rest on defense during the first game of its ICCAC doubleheader against Southwestern on Sunday at the Kirkwood field.
The Eagles blanked Southwestern, 10-0, in five innings as pitcher Erin Hocker got 13 of the 15 outs with strikeouts. Hocker (13-5) finished with a two-hitter with no walks.
Kirkwood defeated Southwestern, 8-0, in five innings of the nightcap on a six-hitter by Bradee Bouman.
The sweep lifted the seventh-ranked Eagles to 25-8 overall and 8-2 in the conference. Southwestern fell to 6-19 overall and 2-8 in the league.
London Jackson, Lauren Kuch and Haley DeWitte belted home runs in the 10-0 victory in the opener. Jackson was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Shelby Hulsebus, Kuch and Jayme Finn had two hits. Haley DeWitte drove in two runs. Kuch, Finn and Taleah Smith scored twice.
Hulsebus went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored twice in the 8-0 triumph in Game 2. Finn was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Randyn Carter also scored twice.
