Tom Belin has been a volunteer coach for the Linn-Mar boys swimming team for the past three years. Now he'll get paid for the job.
Belin has been selected to succeed Ralph Cortez as Linn-Mar's head coach, it was announced Monday. Cortez resigned in August.
Belin is a nationally ranked Masters age group swimmer and had three top-five finishes at the 2012 Masters National Swimming Championship. He's also worked as a coach with the USA Swimming club.
"He has a tremendous amount of knowledge in regards to swimming," Linn-Mar athletic director Scott Mahmens said in a news release. "Tom has a tremendous work ethic and possesses great drive and determination.
"Tom will put in the time and effort to make the Linn-Mar boys swimming program a contender in the powerful MVC Conference."
Linn-Mar is building a new aquatics center on school grounds. Currently, the Lions practice and host meets at Coe College.
Belin is the owner/operator of KAJAT Properties and a business consultant for Discover Financial Services.
