Burdi promoted from Kernels to Fort Myers

Cedar Rapids Kernels relief pitcher Nick Burdi has been promoted to theĀ Fort Myers Miracle in the Florida State League, according to a report by Darren Wolfson at KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.

Burdi, a 6-foot-5 right-hander, dazzled Cedar Rapids fans with his 101 mph fastball and nasty slider. He walked the first four batters he faced in his pro debut with the Kernels in June, but pitched very well after that.

Burdi compiled a 0-0 record and 4.15 ERA with four saves. He pitched 13 innings in 13 games, collecting 26 strikeouts and eight walks. Opponents hit only .174 against him.

The Minnesota Twins selected Burdi in the second round of the 2014 draft from the University of Louisville and gave him a $1.2 signing bonus. He earned a save in his final appearance for the Kernels Saturday night.
