Polanco honored by Twins
The Minnesota Twins organization named Cedar Rapids Kernels infielder Jorge Polanco as their Minor League Player of the Week on Sunday.
Polanco had 13 hits in 28 at-bats for a .464 batting average in seven games last week. He had two doubles and two triples to go with nine RBIs.
Polanco's hot streak actually began as the Kernels came off their most recent day off on April 24. In the 10 games since then, leading into Sunday's game in South Bend, Polanco hit .463 with four doubles, three triples and 13 RBIs.
Polanco, a native of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic, signed for a reported $700,000 bonus with the Twins as an International free agent in 2009 as a 16-year-old.
