DELAWARE, Ohio – Coe sophomore Melissa Alger finished fifth in the women’s discus throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Saturday to become an All-American.
Alger broke her own school record in the process with a toss of 150 feet, 8 inches, breaking her old mark of 149-9 1/2.
Alger became the first Kohawk to earn All-American honors in the Outdoor National Championships since Keelie Finnel finished second in the 800-meter run in 2012.
Alger is the first Coe female to earn All-American honors as a discus thrower since Ann Gramkow claimed sixth in 2003.
