INDIANOLA - Coe junior Michael Redmond tied an NCAA Division III record Saturday when he hit two triples in the same inning.
Redmond, a Linn-Mar grad, accomplished the feat in the fourth inning of a 9-0 victory over Simpson in the first game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Indianola.
Coe also won the second game, 17-6, as Craig Konrardy went 6-for-6 with five RBIs.
Redmond became the seventh player in NCAA D3 history to collect two triples in one inning. It was part of a big doubleheader for the center fielder, who went 3-for-4 in the first game and 3-for-5 with four runs scored in the nightcap.
The surging Kohawks raised their records to 18-9 overall and 10-8 in the conference with the sweep. Simpson fell to 6-19 and 2-12.
Ben Jacobson twirled a two-hit shutout for Coe in the first game. Grant Henning was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Alec Zwanziger was 2-for-4.
AJ Reuter, Henning and Jack Hoffmann hit home runs for the Kohawks in the second game. Hoffmann was also the winning pitcher.
Henning was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Michael Goerdt, Reuter and Hoffmann had two hits. Jory Heckenberg had two RBIs.
