IOWA CITY - Players battled chilly temperatures, wind and rain and the last wave waited out an overnight weather delay to finish their round, but the opening 18 holes of the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's golf championship was completed Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course.
First-round play was suspended Friday afternoon due to persistent rain and lightning with four groups remaining on the course. Those individuals completed their rounds Saturday morning when the decision was made to forgo an attempt at a second 18 holes due to an uncertain weather forecast.
Finishing his round Friday, Buena Vista's Brady Haye fired an opening-round 73, aided by an eagle on the par-5 11th hole, and holds the lead in the medalist race by two strokes over four players, including teammate John Bral and Coe's Tyler Gunderson.
Central, ranked 11th nationally, holds the first-round lead after firing a 307 team total. Coe is eighth at 350.
The tournament concludes next weekend (Friday-Saturday) at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta. A decision will be made mid-week as to whether 36 or 54 holes will be attempted.
