Coe College - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Fathallah, Winterer honored by IIAC

Sarah Fathallah and MJ Winterer from the Coe women's soccer team have been honored by the Iowa Conference.

Fathallah, a Linn-Mar grad, has been named the Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week. She scored goals in both of Coe's victories last week over Loras (3-1) and Simpson (2-1) and had the game-winning goal in both contests.

Winterer was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week in soccer. She made 10 saves in the two wins.

The Kohawks have a 4-1 conference record and are tied with Luther and Wartburg for first place in the conference with two games left to play.

Costly mistakes haunt Coe in loss

For Mark Atwater, it was a story that has played out too many times for the Coe football team in 2015.

The senior linebacker from Linn-Mar couldn't hide his disgust and disappointment Saturday afternoon at Clark Field where the Kohawks played host to Iowa Conference rival Simpson for Homecoming."We've done this too many times this season," Atwater said after the Kohawks' 18-15 loss before an overflow crowd of 4,876 fans. "We just didn't play well enough. We couldn't get off the field and we made too many mistakes.

"It's kinda been the tale of our season," he continued. "We just continue to shoot ourselves in the foot. It's frustrating."
