Conroy, Izer lead Coe runners

Lucy Conroy and Ryan Izer led the Coe cross country teams at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational at Noelridge Park Saturday.

Conroy finished fourth in the women's 6K race in 23 minutes, 27.3 seconds. Izer placed sixth in the men's 8K race in 27:07. Conroy and Izer are both freshmen at Coe.

Cornell won the women's title. Coe placed fourth.

Lake Forest captured the men's title. The Kohawks finished second.

Coe women set school record for wins

Kelsey Fauser and Ashlyn Moos scored goals Saturday as the Coe women's soccer team booted Buena Vista, 2-0, in an Iowa Conference match at Clark Field.

The Kohawks raised their overall record to 12-1-1 and set a school mark with their 12th victory. The Kohawks are 2-1 in the league. Buena Vista fell to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Fauser gave Coe a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game with an unassisted goal that caromed into the net off the post. It was her sixth goal of the season.

Moos tallied in the 54th minute with assists from Shalyn Kinney and Jessy Holen. It was her fourth goal of the year.

MJ Winterer made five saves in goal for the shutout.

 

Miyake lifts Kohawks in 2 OTs

Shuhei Miyake scored on a penalty kick in the 109th minute of the match Saturday to give Coe a 2-1 victory over Buena Vista in double-overtime at Clark Field.

It was Miyake's fifth goal of the season and lifted Coe's records to 4-8-1 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Conference. Buena Vista fell to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Enoch Duval gave Coe a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute with his third goal of the season from about 25 yards. Ricky Rugabisha tied the score for Buena Vista in the 89th minute.

Alec Balta made four saves in goal for the Kohawks.

   

Lang takes 11th for Coe at IIAC golf

PEOSTA - Erin Lang of Coe placed 11th at the Iowa Conference women's golf tournament at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta Saturday.

Lang finished the 72-hole tournament at 346 with rounds of 86, 84, 92 and 84. The first two rounds were played at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls last weekend and the final two rounds were played at Thunder Hills this weekend.

Wartburg won the championship. Coe placed fifth out of eight teams.

Coe spiked twice in Naperville

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Coe volleyball team ran into tough competition at the Naperville Tournament Saturday and dropped both of its matches to ranked teams.

The Kohawks lost to 11th-ranked Carthage, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18, and fell to top-ranked Washington University, 25-18, 25-10, 27-29, 25-22.

Brianna Smith led Coe with eight kills against Carthage. Mackenzie Harbaugh had 12 assists. Ali Arns and Madi Miller contributed six digs.

Smith had 13 kills against Washington and Olivia Leisinger had 12. Harbaugh rolled up 36 assists in the match. Miller had 11 digs and Leisinger blocked five shots.

The losses dropped Coe to 15-10 for the season. Carthage is 19-4 and Washington is 22-1.
