Coe College - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Kohawks fall at No.6 Wartburg

WAVERLY - Coe took the opening kick and drove 77 yards for a quick touchdown against sixth-ranked Wartburg Saturday, but it was mostly downhill from there for the Kohawks in an Iowa Conference game in Waverly.

Wartburg scored 24 straight points and topped the Kohawks, 31-14, on a sunny day at Walston-Hoover Stadium.

Coe quarterback Josh Rekers passed for 300 yards and two touchdowns, but the Kohawks rushed for only 34 yards and were turned into a one-sided football team by Wartburg's defense.

The Kohawks moved 77 yards in six plays on their first possession and took a 7-0 lead on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Rekers to Mitchell Malloy. The Kohawks did not score again until Kazumasa Ikoma snared a 22-yard TD pass from Rekers with 33 seconds left in the third period to pull the visitors within 24-14.
