Anderson makes semis of regional tennis

ST. PETER, Minn. - Brady Anderson of Coe College will face top-seeded Jake Humphreys of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional tennis tournament Saturday morning in St. Peter, Minn.

Anderson, a sophomore from Linn-Mar, is seeded No. 4 in the tournament. He won both of his matches Saturday, giving him a 5-0 record in the tournament so far. He outlasted ninth-seeded Grant Thompson of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a tiebreaker in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 0-6, 7-6.

The championship match in men's singles is scheduled for Sunday at noon.

Anderson and Josh Pudlo of Coe lost in the quarterfinals of men's doubles Saturday to Humphreys and Michael Tries of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 8-2.

 

Lang leads Coe women at IIAC golf

CEDAR FALLS - Erin Lang of Coe sat in 13th place Saturday after the first two rounds of the 2015 Iowa Conference women's golf tournament at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls.

The Kohawks are tied for Simpson for fifth place in the eight-team meet.

The Wartburg Knights, seeking their ninth straight title, lead Central College by 41 strokes heading into the final two rounds next weekend at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta.

Rochelle Beardsley of Wartburg has the 36-hole lead at 4-over-par 148. Lang has rounds of 86 and 84 for a 36-hole tally of 170.

Frederito, Winterer lift Coe women

Keira Frederito scored an unassisted goal in the 71st minute Saturday to help Coe blank Wartburg, 1-0, in an Iowa Conference women's soccer match at Clark Field in Cedar Rapids.

MJ Winterer made 10 saves in goal for the shutout.

Coe raised its records to 11-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Wartburg fell to 7-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

   

Coe men booted by Wartburg

The Wartburg Knights blanked Coe, 4-0, in an Iowa Conference men's soccer match at Clark Field in Cedar Rapids Saturday.

Ayo Adebayo, Zubeen Azari, Paris Martins and Linn-Mar grad Ben Johnson scored for Wartburg. Cedar Rapids Washington grad Gunnar Lenzen played the final 4 minutes, 48 seconds in goal for the Knights.

Wartburg raised its records to 7-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Coe fell to 1-8-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.

 

Lang leads Coe golfers at IIAC meet

CEDAR FALLS – Erin Lang shot an 86 to tie for 12th place and lead the Coe College women’s golf team to fifth place after the first round of the Iowa Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.

Wartburg leads the eight-team field with 308.

Bethany Lehman is tied for 21st place for the Kokawks with 91 strokes.

The tournament continues with the second round Saturday in Cedar Falls, with the third and fourth rounds taking place next weekend.
