Coe men enter final round in 10th

DUBUQUE – The Coe College men’s golf team held 10th place after the first round of the University of Dubuque Fall Invitational on Saturday.

The University of Dubuque led the 12-team field with 288 strokes, while the Kohawks shot 336.

Jason Gingerich shot an 81 to tie for 27th on the leaderboard and lead Coe.

The tournament will conclude Sunday.

Team scores – 1. University of Dubuque 288, Augustana 303, 3. (tie) Central White and Wartburg 306, 5. Central 310; 6. Grinnell 318; 7. Loras 319; 8. (tie) Clarke and Dubuque 335; 10. Coe 336; 111. Augustana B 342; 12. Palmer 375.

Individual leaders – 1. Cameron Shere (UD) 70; 2. Anders Haukoos (UD) 71; 3. (tie) Troy Krueger (UD) and Eric Swanson (A) 72.

Coe women’s tennis wins 2

The Coe College women’s team team swept Simpson 9-0 and Central 9-0 Saturday at Clark Racquet Center.

Rekers not enough in Kohawks’ loss

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – A stellar performance by quarterback Josh Rekers wasn’t enough for the Coe College football team in a 34-31 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday in front of 3,119 fans at Community Stadium.

Rekers finished with 34 completions for 391 yards for the Kohawks (1-2). The 34 completions were the second most in school history and the 391 passing yards were the third most. Coe finished with 35 completions for the game, which tied the school record.

Trevor Heitland caught 13 passes, which was the second most in school history, and finished with 117 yards.

Stevens Point came out strong, however, taking a 17-0 lead in the second quarter before Coe could get on the scoreboard. Demetrius Harper scored on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Rekers for the Kohawks to make is 17-7.

But Stevens Point (1-1) kept up a strong ground attack, finishing with 39 carries for 248 yards, including 98 yards from Britton Vernon.

Harper and Colton Martin caught touchdown passes of 27 and 23 yards from Rekers in the second half, Colton Storia added a 3-yard touchdown run, and Brandon Abbas kicked a 20-yard field goal for the Kohawks.

Coe nips Cornell in volleyball

The Coe women's volleyball team nipped Cornell, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13, in a sea-saw battle Thursday night at Eby Fieldhouse that came down to the wire.

Olivia Leisinger led a balanced attack for the Kohawks with 16 kills. Lauren Himan had 15 kills, Brianna Smith 12, Mackenzie Harbaugh 10 and Lindsey Koch eight.

Harbaugh rolled up a whopping 53 assists in the five sets. Madi Miller had 13 digs and Meghan McClimon had 11.

Lauren Ahart topped Cornell with 12 kills.

Coe raised its record to 9-3. Cornell fell to 3-7.

 

 

 

Coe women boot Cornell, 7-1

The Coe women's soccer team raised its record to 7-0-1 Wednesday by kicking the Cornell Rams, 7-1, at Clark Field.

Sarah Fathallah poured in three goals for the Kohawks and Jordan Holmes notched a pair. Miranda Anderson and Shalyn Kinney also connected for Coe.

Kinney had two assists for the Kohawks. Ashlyn Moos and Meg Tulenko had one assist.

Elisabeth Sage scored an unassisted goal for Cornell, which fell to 0-4 for the campaign.

Coe led 3-1 at halftime and scored four unanswered goals in the second half. The Kohawks out-shot the Rams, 24-3, including 17-1 in the second half.

Holmes scored the first goal to give Coe a 1-0 lead. Sage countered for Cornell to make it 1-1, but Fathallah scored three straight times to make it 4-1 and put the match out of reach.
