Gunderson tied for 2nd at IIAC golf

PEOSTA - Tyler Gunderson of Coe is tied for second place after 54 holes of the Iowa Conference men's golf tournament.

Desmond Stoll of Central has the lead at 3-over-par 217. Gunderson sits in a five-way tie for second place at 223 with rounds of 75, 76 and 72 so far.

The final round of the 72-hole tournament will be held Saturday at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta. They played 36 holes at Thunder Hills Friday.

Central leads the tournament by 26 strokes. Coe is in last place.

Kohawks win 3 events in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Coe captured three events at the Dubuque Invitational track meet Friday.

Chris Hawkins soared to victory in the long jump at 23 feet, 1/2 inch. Robbie Peters captured the shot put at 43 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

Sammie Osterberger claimed a victory for the Coe women in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.16.

 

Morgan Meese will run for Kohawks

Morgan Meese of Cedar Rapids Jefferson plans to continue her successful track career at Coe College next year.

Meese is a member of the championship relay teams at Jefferson. The J-Hawks won the 4x200 relay and the 4x100 relay at the Drake Relays this year. They broke the Iowa all-time record in the 4x200 and matched the all-time record in the 4x100.

Meese helped Jefferson win the 4x200 relay at the state meet last year.

   

Coe advances to IIAC softball semis

DECORAH - Gretchen Lilienthal had three hits and drove home two runs as Coe defeated Buena Vista, 6-2, in the opening round of the Iowa Conference softball tournament at Luther.

The win moves the Kohawks to 24-15 and opposite top-seeded Luther at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Haley Smith and Erin Lang both had two hits for Coe. Pitcher Maliah Fligg had a double as well. She allowed five hits and two runs in picking up her eighth win of the season.

Kohawks rally to top Mustangs, 6-3

Coe rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday and topped Mount Mercy, 6-3, in a battle of northeast Cedar Rapids college baseball teams at Daniels Park.

Jack Hoffmann, Jory Heckenberg, Grant Henning and Michael Redmond drove in runs in the eighth inning for the Kohawks with base hits. Heckenberg and Redmond had doubles in the frame.

Coe shortstop Craig Konrardy collected his 20th double in the ballgame, setting a school record. He was 2-for-4.

Heckenberg went 3-for-4. Hoffmann was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Hoffmann also tossed five shutout innings as the starting pitcher, but got a no-decision. AJ Reuter was the winning pitcher in relief.
