Brierton powers Kohawks by Grinnell

Andrew Brierton belted two home runs Wednesday as Coe dumped Grinnell, 14-5, in a college baseball game at Daniels Park.

Brierton went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. He scored three runs.

Jack Hoffmann went 4-for-4 for the Kohawks as part of their 19-hit attack. Grant Henning was 3-for-5. Michael Redmond went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Michael Goerdt was 2-for-4. Craig Konrardy drove in two runs and collected his 19th double.

The Kohawks scored four runs in the second, fifth and eight innings. Cal Kragenbrink allowed only two earned runs in seven innings for the victory.

Kohawks clip Cornell at stadium

Jory Heckenberg went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs Tuesday as Coe topped Cornell, 6-3, in a college baseball game at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Kohawks defeated the Rams for the 18th time in their last 19 meetings. Coe snapped a 3-3 tie with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a big two-run single by Heckenberg.

Craig Konrardy went 3-for-5, scored two runs and collected his 18th double of the season for Coe. Jack Hoffmann was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Coe fights back to gain split

DUBUQUE - After dropping a heartbreaker in the opener, Coe fought back to down Dubuque, 10-3, in the nightcap of an Iowa Conference doubleheader Monday at the UD Baseball Field.

Michael Goerdt's 3-run homer keyed a seven-run seventh for the Kohawks (25-12, 17-11 IIAC). Jory Heckenberg had four hits and four RBIs. Andrew Brierton had three hits while AJ Reuter and Grant Henning had two each.

Ben Jacobson went the full nine innings for the win, striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs.

In the opener, Coe grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth when Reuter doubled and eventually scored on an error.

Dubuque won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Reuter had two of Coe's four hits. Connor Alberhasky was the tough-luck loser, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Dubuque is 12-14, 7-17.

Coe takes twinbill from Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Craig Konrardy had five hits in the doubleheader, including a triple and a double at Coe swept past Dubuque, 7-2 and 8-4, in an Iowa Conference twinbill on Sunday at the UD Baseball Field.

Coe, 24-11 overall, 16-10 in the IIAC, pounded out 27 hits in the two games.

Konrardy scored two runs and drove home two more in the opener. Michael Goerdt had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Winning pitcher Jack Hoffmann had three hits while former Linn-Mar player Michael Redmond and Thomas Simon had two hits apiece.

Hoffmann moved his pitching record to 8-1, going seven innings, allowing eight hits, striking out two and walking none.

Konrardy kept it going in the nightcap, banging out three more hits, including a double. Hoffmann had two hits, driving home three.

Jory Heckenberg, Cole Tomlinson and winning pitcher AJ Reuter each added two hits. On the mound, Reuter gave up eight hits in six innings, striking out four.

Dubuque is 11-23,6-16.

Kohawk softball splits at Loras

DUBUQUE - Gretchen Lilienthal homered and Mallory McArtor had a triple as Coe built a 4-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 win in the second game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader Sunday at Faber-Clark Field.

The Duhawks took the opener, 3-1.

Arryn Weeces got the win for the Kohawks. She struck out nine while walking one to win her 13th game this season. Maliah Fligg had two hits and an RBI for Coe.

In the opener Taylor Riedl's solo homer in the second gave Coe a 1-0 lead, but the hosts scored three times in the fourth off Fligg to rally. Erin Lang had two hits for the Kohawks (23-15 overall, 7-7 IIAC).

The split left Loras at 19-19, 4-10.
