Redmond ties NCAA mark as Coe sweeps

INDIANOLA - Coe junior Michael Redmond tied an NCAA Division III record Saturday when he hit two triples in the same inning.

Redmond, a Linn-Mar grad, accomplished the feat in the fourth inning of a 9-0 victory over Simpson in the first game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Indianola.

Coe also won the second game, 17-6, as Craig Konrardy went 6-for-6 with five RBIs.

Redmond became the seventh player in NCAA D3 history to collect two triples in one inning. It was part of a big doubleheader for the center fielder, who went 3-for-4 in the first game and 3-for-5 with four runs scored in the nightcap.

Coe tennis teams claim victories

The Coe tennis teams picked up a pair of victories Saturday.

The Coe men's team blanked Wartburg, 9-0, in an Iowa Conference meet in Waverly. Riley Galbraith, a Kennedy grad, won his match at No. 1 singles in straight sets. Brady Anderson, a Linn-Mar grad, captured his match at No. 2 singles in straight sets as well.

The Coe women's team clipped Ashford, 6-3, in a non-conference meet. Haley Resnick won her match at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-3.

The Coe men are 15-4 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Coe women have a 19-5 record.

Coe softball team sweeps Wartburg

WAVERLY - Haley Smith, Taylor Riedl and Marisa Repp belted home runs Saturday as Coe defeated Wartburg, 12-4, in the second game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Waverly.

The Kohawks also won the first game, 5-1.

Aaran Weeces (10-4) pitched a complete game in the opener and did not allow an earned run. Repp went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Brianna Gardner, Paige Zahner and Smith had two hits.

Reuter tosses shutout as Coe sweeps

INDIANOLA - AJ Reuter tossed a four-hit shutout as Coe blanked Simpson, 3-0, in the first game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Indianola Friday.

The Kohawks took the second game, 9-2, to sweep the doubleheader.

The victories lifted Coe to 16-9 overall and 8-8 in the conference. Simpson fell to 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Reuter (2-1) struck out five batters and did not walk anyone in his shutout. The Kohawks got only four hits in the game themselves, but they pushed across two runs in the fifth inning and added another marker in the seventh. Michael Redmond scored two runs.

Michael Goerdt went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs for Coe in the nightcap. Craig Konrardy was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored. Cole Tomlinson had two hits and Alec Zwanziger scored two runs.

Doyle paces KCC golfers at Waverly

WAVERLY - Eddie Doyle fired a 2-over-par 74 Friday to help Kirkwood take the 18-hole lead at the Wartburg Spring Invitational at Prairie Links Golf Club in Waverly.

Kirkwood finished the first round at 307 for a six-shot lead over Nebraska Wesleyan. Blaine Buhr of Kirkwood is tied for third at 4-over 76 and Dylan Daxon is tied for fifth at 5-over 77.

Coe is in last place in the 10-team tournament at 367. The final round is Saturday.
