Coe tennis teams beat Oglethorpe

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Coe tennis teams defeated Oglethorpe Sunday on their trip to Florida.

The Coe men's tennis team topped Oglethorpe, 7-2, with Brady Anderson, Ryan Hickman, Chad Moklestad, Alex Bernt and Zack Decker winning their singles matches.

The Coe women defeated Oglethorpe, 6-3, with Amy Sebastian, Jordan Ferree, Laura Birky and Diannah Watson winning their singles matches.

The Coe women also lost to Saint Mary's College, 5-4.

The Coe men have a 9-2 record. The Coe women are 13-3.

Coe baseball team sweeps twinbill

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Coe baseball team swept a doubleheader from Roger Williams, 5-4 and 7-6, Saturday with clutch hitting in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Kohawks (3-0) erupted for five runs in the fifth inning of the opener to take a 5-1 lead. Jory Heckenberg delivered a three-run triple and Michael Redmond had an RBI single in the big frame. Redmond was 3-for-3 in the ballgame.

Connor Alberhasky pitched a complete game for the victory in the opener, allowing only one earned run on four hits. He struck out seven batters and walked only two.

Coe scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning of the nightcap to grab a 7-6 lead. Grant Henning tied the game, 6-6, with an RBI triple and Thomas Simon followed with an RBI double.

Thomas Schaedel got the victory in Game 2 with four strong innings in relief. Ben Jacobson pitched the bottom of the seventh inning for the save.

Redmond, Grant Henning and Simon all had three hits in the nightcap. Cole Tomlinson drove in three runs and Simon had two RBIs.

Coe netters split meets in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe men's tennis team split two matches in Florida Saturday.

The Kohawks lost to Valparaiso, 5-2, and blanked Northwestern (Minn.), 9-0.

Brady Anderson and Zack Decker won their singles matches against Valparaiso, which is an NCAA Division I school.

Anderson, Chad Moklestad, Tyrin Wages, Matt Moore, Josh Schlafer and Chris Schirm swept their singles matches against Northwestern.

Coe baseball team opens with victory

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Jack Hoffmann and Ben Jacobson provided strong pitching Saturday as the Coe baseball team opened its season with a 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Auburndale, Fla.

Hoffmann allowed only two runs in the first six innings of the game. He allowed seven hits, struck out six batters and walked two.

Jacobson pitched three shutout innings to finish the game and collect a save. He did not allow any hits, had one strikeout and one walk.

Shortstop Craig Konrardy went 2-for-5 for the Kohawks with two runs and two RBIs. Thomas Schaedel went 2-for-4, AJ Reuter drove in two runs and Michael Goerdt scored two runs.

3 Coe women named all-IIAC

Megan Hayes, Mickey Hansche and Aleena Hobbs from the Coe women's basketball team have earned first-team honors in the Iowa Conference this season.

Hayes became the 11th player in league history to be selected to four all-conference teams in her career and the second in school history. Hayes was a second-team pick as a freshman, sophomore and junior before making the first team this year.

Hayes is a senior from Bettendorf, Hansche is a sophomore from Iowa City High and Hobbs is a freshman from Cedar Rapids Washington.

Moran Lonning of Luther was named the Most Valuable Player in the league.
