Grinnell swimmers sweep Coe

GRINNELL – The Coe College men’s and women’s swimming teams suffered losses to Grinnell College on Saturday at Grinnell.

The Coe men lost, 157-61, and the Coe women fell, 177-72.

Andy Cheng won the 100 yard butterfly in 55.52 seconds for the Coe men. Ryan Batisto, Cheng, Tucker Dangremond and Timmy Bosn won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.36.

Kenni Sterns won the 100 butterfly for the Coe women in 1:05.52. Jasmine Deng took the 3-meter diving with a score of 196.95. Lindsey Meade won the 400 individual medley in 5:05.98.

Sam Fitzgerald, Kendall Bundy, Sterns and Brandi Peter claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.32.

Hawkins wins triple jump for Kohawks

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Chris Hawkins won the triple jump for the Coe men's track team Saturday with a leap of 44 feet, 8.75 inches at the Pioneer Open in Platteville, Wis.

Alex Deeds placed second in the shot put with a toss of 44-1.5. Jacob Johnson was second in the long jump at 20-3.5. Erik Franklin took second in the 400 in 51.69 and was fourth in the 200 in 23.26.

Robbie Peters finished fourth in the weight throw at 43-4. Derek Ross was fourth in the high jump at 5-8. Johnson placed sixth in the pole vault at 10-1.25.

The Coe women fared well in the field events. Laura Bybee won the pole vault at 10-6.75, Kenzie Drahn won the triple jump at 34-7, Melissa Alger was third in the shot put at 36-2 and Katie Guinane was sixth in the 800 in 2:41.11.

 

Chicago sweeps Coe men in tennis

The 17th-ranked University of Chicago men’s tennis team swept No. 35 Coe College, 9-0, Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center.

Coe’s Noah Sprinkel took top-ranked Nicholas Chua to three sets, but lost 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match.

Chicago is 1-1, while Coe is 0-1.

Coe women down Luther, 73-62

Megan Hayes had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Coe College women’s basketball team beat Luther, 73-62, Saturday at Eby Fieldhouse.

Allie Wirth scored 13 points and also grabbed nine rebounds for Coe (13-6 overall and 5-2 in the IIAC). Courteney McCrary added eight points.

The Kohawks are in second place in the Iowa Conference standings, one game behind Dubuque.

Moran Lonning scored 19 points for Luther (15-4, 5-3) and Kylie Romeo had 15 points.

Fahey’s 19 lead Coe men over Luther

Christian Fahey scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Coe College men’s basketball team to a 67-60 win over Luther on Saturday and remain unbeaten at Eby Fieldhouse in Iowa Conference play.

Matt Vonderhaar scored 13 points and J.T. Vonderhaar added 12 as the Kohawks improved to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in the league. Coe is tied for first place in the Iowa Conference with Buena Vista.

Jake Martin led the Norse (6-13, 2-6) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
