Fitzgerald, Sterns lead Coe swimmers

Sam Fitzgerald and Kenni Sterns were double-winners for the Coe women's swim team Friday in a meet at the Eby Fieldhouse pool.

Fitzgerald won the 100 breastroke (1:09.43) and swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay (1:55.92). Sterns claimed the 200 freestyle (2:04.45) and swam on the medley relay with Fitzgerald, Kendall Bundy and Lindsay Meade.

The Coe women also received victories from Katie King in the 100 fly (1:04.60), Kendallyn Recker in 1-meter diving and Jasmine Deng in 3-meter diving.

Andy Cheng captured a victory for the Coe men's team with a 59.04 showing in the 100 backstroke.

The Coe women defeated Lincoln (164-29) and lost to Iowa Lakes Community College (121-109). The Coe men topped Lincoln (110-98) and lost to Iowa
Lakes (146-77).

 

 

 

Halupnik commits to Coe basketball

Linn-Mar guard Lane Halupnik has committed to play college basketball at Coe, Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson confirmed Thursday.

Halupnik is averaging 7.3 points for the Lions, who are ranked No. 9 in Class 4A with a 9-3 record. He is shooting 39.3 percent on 3-pointers.

Coe is currently tied for the Iowa Conference lead with Buena Vista with 4-1 league records.

 

Coe women climb into tie for 1st

The Coe women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and trimmed Wartburg, 61-59, in an Iowa Conference game at Eby Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

The victory lifted the Kohawks into a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Luther and Dubuque, all with 4-1 records. Luther suffered its first Iowa Conference loss Wednesday to Simpson.

Senior Megan Hayes scored 16 points for Coe and became the eighth player in school history with 1,000 career points. She now has 1,011 for her career.

Aleena Hobbs hit a 3-pointer to give the Kohawks a 58-56 lead with 2:21 remaining, then Mickey Hansche hit another triple to give Coe a 61-56 edge with 1:08 left to play.

Coe men, women swimmers each 6th

GRINNELL – The Coe College men’s and women’s swimming teams each finished sixth at the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday.

Justin Sauter was fifth in the 1-meter diving with a score of 218.15 as the Coe men scored 279 points.

Jasmine Deng was third in the 3-meter diving with a score of 337.05 as the Coe women scored 292 points. Kendallyn Recker was sixth at 307.75.

Sam Fitzgerald finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke for Coe in 1 minute, 10.22 seconds.

Luther downs Coe women, 76-62

DECORAH – The Luther College women’s basketball team improved to 14-1 with a 76-62 win over Coe College on Saturday at the Regents Center.

Mickey Hansche had 16 points for Coe (10-5), Aleena Hobbs had 16 points and Megan Hayes added 12 points.

Meagan Koepnick and Moran Lonning each had 18 points for the Norse.

COE (62): Hayes 4 4-5 12, Wirth 1 2-2 4, Hobbs 7 0-0 15, Hansche 6 1-2 16, Lehman 2 0-0 4, Holmes 0 0-0 0, Lynch 0 0-0 0, McCrary 3 0-0 7, Lehmann 0 0-0 0, Koolbeck 0 0-0 0, Collins 0 0-0 0, Stulken 2 0-0 4. Totals 25 7-9 62.
