Hawkins wins 2 events for Coe track

DUBUQUE – Chris Hawkins won the 55-meter hurdles and long jump to lead the Coe College men’s track team at the Sol Butler Invitational on Saturday at the A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track.

The Coe men finished seventh with 38 points and the Coe women were eighth with 20 points.

Hawkins won the 55 hurdles in 7.78 seconds and took the long jump with a leap of 6.82 meters.

Coe men topple Luther, 80-72

DECORAH – The Coe College men’s basketball team improved to 9-6 with an 80-72 win over Luther College on Saturday at the Regents Center in an Iowa Conference game.

J.T. Vonderhaar had 17 points for Coe, Jacob Timm had a big double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Matt Daoust had 16 points.

Jake Martin had 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Norse (4-11).

Coe men, women swimmers each hold 6th

GRINNELL – The Coe College men’s and women’s swimming teams each held sixth place after the first day of competition at the Grinnell Invitational.

Justin Sauter was sixth in the 3-meter diving with a score of 206.35 for the Coe men, who scored 143 points. Rucker Dangremond was eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 23.08 seconds.

Sam Fitzgerald led the Coe women with fifth place in the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.64, and Kendallyn Recker was sixth in the 1-meter diving with a score of 307.10. Coe scored 158 points.

Augustana nips No.9 Coe matmen

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Augustana Vikings trimmed ninth-ranked Coe, 19-18, in a college wrestling meet Thursday at the Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill.

The teams split their 10 matches, 5-5, with each squad collecting 18 match points, but Augustana had the only pin and was awarded an extra point on criteria for the 19-18 victory.

Farai Sewara (165) had a technical fall for Coe. Donnie Horner (197) posted a major decision. Luke Kremer (141), Josh Donkle (149) and Ryan Harrington (174) won regular decisions for the Kohawks.

Beavers pull away from Coe late

STORM LAKE - Guard Nick Clark scored 24 points as Buena Vista broke open a close game late, beating Coe 69-60, in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Siebens Fieldhouse.

The Beavers (9-5, 2-1 IIAC) also got 12 points from Alex Savage. Kennedy Dray had 11 points and hauled down 15 rebounds.

JT Vonderhaar led Coe (8-6, 2-1) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Daoust was the only other Kohawk player in double figures. He finished with 11 points.
