Hansche powers Coe past BV

STORM LAKE - Mickey Hansche scored 21 points to lead four Coe players in double figures as the Kohawks rolled past Buena Vista, 82-68, in Iowa Conference women's basketball on Wednesday night at Siebens Fieldhouse.

Aleena Hobbs added 17 points for Coe (10-4 overall, 3-0 IIAC). Megan Hayes and Jenna Lehman had 11 points apiece for the Kohawks. Allie Worth just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Lexi Fisher paced the Beavers (5-9, 0-3) with 14 points.

Hobbs honored by Iowa Conference

Aleena Hobbs of Coe has been named the Athlete of the Week by the Iowa Conference in women's basketball.

Hobbs, a freshman from Cedar Rapids Washington, averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two league victories last week. The Kohawks defeated Simpson and Loras, which were picked 1-2 in the Iowa Conference preseason poll.

Hobbs collected 14 points and eight rebounds in a 75-69 victory over Simpson. She had 21 points and nine rebounds in a 72-65 verdict over Loras.

 

Coe swimmers claim 3 titles

DECORAH – The Coe College men’s and women’s swimming teams combined for three individual titles Saturday at the Luther Spring Invitational. Team scores were not kept.

Sam Fitzgerald won the 50- and 100-yard breaststrokes in 32.29 seconds and 1:10.41, respectively, for the Kohawk women.

Tuck-Dogg Dangremond won the 50 breaststroke for the Coe men in 28.83.

Coe wrestlers finish eighth at duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Farai Sewera and Ryan Harrington each won two matches as the Coe College wrestling team as the Kohawks finished eighth at the NWCA National Duals on Friday.

Eighth-ranked Coe lost to No. 6 Wisconsin-LaCrosse 29-12 in the consolation semifinals and lost to No. 5 Mount Union 28-11 in the seventh-place match.

Sewera, ranked second at 165 points, won a 6-3 decision over Wisconsin-LaCrosse’s Tyler Schneider, and won a 5-3 decision over Mount Union’s Nick Hendershot.

Harrington, ranked fourth at 174 points, won a 5-1 decision over Wisconsin-LaCrosse’s Sean O’Neil, and won a 15-0 technical fall over Mount Union’s Nick Miller.

Daoust leads Coe with 22 points

Matt Daoust scored 22 points to lead the Coe College men’s basketball team to a 68-60 win over Loras on Saturday at Eby Fieldhouse.

Loras led 33-32 at halftime, but the Kohawks went on a 17-11 run to open the second half.

Christian Fahey had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Coe (8-5).

Justin VanWambeke had 18 points for Loras (5-8), Bobby Harmening had 12 points, and Aaron Schueller had 10 points.
