Coe's Rekers, Bundy honored by IIAC

Josh Rekers and Kendall Bundy of Coe College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Iowa Conference.

Rekers completed 21 of 30 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns as the Kohawks defeated Luther, 35-14, Saturday on the road. He also scored on a 1-yard run and was honored as the Player of the Week on offense.

Bundy was a triple-winner for the Coe women's swimming team during its meet against Loras Saturday. She won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was a member of the triumphant medley relay. She was honored as the Female Swimmer of the Week.

 

Rekers sharp as Coe dumps Luther

DECORAH - Josh Rekers passed for 271 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Coe defeated Luther, 35-14, in an Iowa Conference game in Decorah.

Rekers hit Nick Lenstra with a 46-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to snap a 14-14 tie and give the Kohawks a 20-14 advantage. He connected with Trevor Heitland for a 10-yard score later in the third period for a 27-14 lead.

Rekers completed 21 of 30 passes. He also scored on a 1-yard run.

Sam Lahr carried the ball 17 times for 70 yards and one touchdown for the Kohawks. Heitland caught six passes for 59 yards.

Colin Ferring finished the scoring for Coe with a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Coe women booted by Wartburg

Madison Astgen scored in the 43rd minute to snap a scoreless tie as Wartburg tipped Coe, 1-0, at the Iowa Conference women's soccer tournament Saturday.

MJ Winterer made 14 saves for the Kohawks.

Coe ended the season with a 9-10 record.

   

Bundy, Fitzgerald lead Coe swimmers

DUBUQUE - Kendall Bundy and Sam Fitzgerald were triple-winners for the Coe women's swimming team Friday in a tight 112-107 loss to Loras in an Iowa Conference meet in Dubuque.

Bundy captured the 50 freestyle (27.16) and 100 backstroke (1:03.00). Fitzgerald claimed the 100 butterfly (1:04.21) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.66). They also swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay with Kenni Sterns and Katy Appler.

Jasmine Deng won the diving for Coe.

The Coe men lost their meet to Loras, 151-50. The Kohawks did not win any events.

Kohawks spiked by Cornell, 3-1

MOUNT VERNON - Diamond Boyd tied the school record with 29 kills Friday as Cornell trimmed Coe, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, in a college volleyball match in Mount Vernon.

Cornell raised its record to 20-6. Coe fell to 26-8.

Mackenzie Harbaugh registered 44 assists for the Kohawks. Rachel Schaefer had 17 kills, Alissa Wittenburg 17 digs and Brianna Smith nine kills.
