Coe College - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Kohawks drubbed by Central, 45-21

The Coe College football team appeared to be in good shape at the tail end of the first Saturday against Central College, but everything went haywire from there.

The visiting Dutchmen spanked the Kohawks, 45-21, in an Iowa Conference game that became more lopsided as the lovely fall afternoon went along.

Coe led, 14-10, and was driving for more points when quarterback Josh Rekers overshot a receiver and was intercepted with 1:22 left in the second quarter. Central quickly drove 69 yards the other way and took a 17-14 advantage at intermission and the game slipped away from there.

Central (5-2, 3-1) blitzed the Kohawks 28-7 in the second half and won easily.

It was the second straight lopsided defeat at Clark Field for Coe, which fell to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Kohawks lost to Wartburg, 43-0, at home Oct. 11 and have been outscored 88-21 in their last two home games.
