Tiedt stresses wellness with Coe tennis

Kris Tiedt has focused her life on the wellness of others and now as the head women’s tennis coach at Coe she can do just that.

Tiedt played tennis at Northern Illinois University. She still plays in league tournaments in the area and national tournaments.

Tiedt served as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Coe under Eric Rodgers for five years, but now she's leading the women's program and Rodgers is leading the men's program.

Tiedt also works as the strength and conditioning coach for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's golf.

Wellness is important to her.

3 Kohawks honored by Iowa Conference

Haley Resnick, Rachel Schaefer and Rachel Bosworth of Coe have been named Athletes of the Week by the Iowa Conference.

Resnick, a freshman from Bettendorf, won the Flight A singles title at the Iowa Conference tennis tournament Saturday in Pella. She defeated No. 1 seed Arantxa Martinez of Dubuque in the finals, avenging a loss to Martinez during the regular season.

Schaefer, a senior from Waterloo, was named the Offensive Player of the Week in volleyball after breaking the Coe career record for kills.

Bosworth, a senior from Nevada, Iowa, was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball.

Kohawks split at Knights Classic

WAVERLY - The Coe volleyball team split two matches at the Knights Classic in Waverly Saturday.

The Kohawks lost to 24th-ranked Augsburg, 25-20, 27-25, 25-16, and defeated St. Olaf, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 25-9.

Mackenzie Harbaugh collected 34 assists and 12 digs against Augsburg. Rachel Schaefer had 16 kills, Rachel Bosworth 14 kills and Alissa Wittenburg 12 digs.

Harbaugh amassed 50 assists against St. Olaf. Bosworth had 17 kills and seven blocks. Wittenburg had 25 digs, Schaefer 12 kills and Meghan McClimon 10 kills.

The Kohawks have an 18-5 record this season.

Coe women dominate IIAC tennis

PELLA - The Coe women's tennis team continued its dominance of the Iowa Conference tournament Saturday.

Coe freshman Haley Resnick defeated top-seeded Arantxa Martinez of Dubuque, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 for the Flight A singles title at the Kuyper Athletic Complex in Pella.

Laura Birky and Jordan Ferree of Coe captured the Flight A doubles title with an 8-5 verdict over teammates Sarah Lasecki and Resnick in the finals.

This was the fourth straight Flight A singles title for the Kohawks and the seventh straight Flight A doubles crown.

Resnick defeated Ferree, 6-3, 6-0, in the semifinals and Martinez topped Amy Sebastian of Coe, 6-3, 6-2.

Kohawks display 2 good QBs in victory

The Iowa Hawkeyes are not the only college football team in Eastern Iowa with a pair of talented quarterbacks who are battling for playing time.

Say hello to Coe, which has two fine passers of its own with Josh Rekers and Gavin Glenn.

The Kohawks used both QBs Saturday and knocked off Loras, 36-10, with 469 yards of total offense and a stingy defense in the Iowa Conference opener before 2,983 fans at Clark Field.

Rekers, the incumbent and season-long starter, began the game and hit 13 of 25 passes for 157 yards. Glenn, a transfer from Minnesota-Duluth, relieved Rekers and gave the Kohawks a spark by completing 8 of 9 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

"I guess we're taking after the Hawkeyes as they go with their two quarterbacks, Beathard and Rudock," said Rekers. "We'll see where it takes us."
