Coe men kicked by Central

PELLA - The Coe men's soccer team lost to Central, 3-1, in an Iowa Conference match at the Kuyper Athletic Complex Tuesday.

Masine Zakaria tied the score for the Kohawks, 1-1, in the second half with an assist from Keegan McIntosh, but Central collected the next two goals for the victory.

Dennis Forest scored twice for the Dutchmen. Aleksander Glavas also scored for Central (3-8, 1-1).

Coe fell to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.

 

Gunderson paces Coe at Midwest golf

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. - Tyler Gunderson of Coe finished 25th at the Midwest Classic golf tournament Tuesday with a 36-hole score of 155 with rounds of 81 and 74 at the Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells.

The Kohawks finished 25th out of 28 teams. Central College took the title.

 

COE - 25. Tyler Gunderson 81-74=155, 115. Seth Inman 101-77=178, 120. Alex Everhart 91-89=180, 125. Anthony Worden 95-87=182, 128. Hunter Mulnix 94-91=185.

 

Coe soccer players earn IIAC honors

Brittni Viehman and MJ Winterer from the Coe women's soccer team have been named Athletes of the Week by the Iowa Conference.

Viehman, a junior forward from Shorewood, Ill., scored the only goal as Coe upset 22nd-ranked Luther, 1-0, and was named the Offensive Player of the Week in women's soccer. It was her only shot of the game.

Winterer, a freshman from Omaha, made seven saves in goal for the Kohawks in their victory over Luther and was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Amy Sebastian of Coe received special mention in women's tennis.

   

Galbraith, Anderson take 2nd at regional

ST.PETER, Minn. - Riley Galbraith and Brady Anderson of Coe College finished second at the ITA Midwest regional tennis tournament Sunday in t. Peter, Minn.

Galbraith and Anderson upset top-seeded Jake Humphreys and Ben Shklyar of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals, 8-6, for their fourth straight victory in the tournament.

Galbraith and Anderson won the first set in the championship match against second-seeded Motasem Al-Houni and Andres Saenz of Gustavus Adolphus, but Al-Houni and Saenz rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 victory in a tiebreaker.

Al-Houni is from Libya and Saenz is from Mexico.

Galbraith, a Cedar Rapids Kennedy grad, and Anderson, a Linn-Mar grad, were seeded third in the regional.

 

 

 

 

 

Coe women boot No.22 Luther

Brittni Viehman scored an unassisted goal Saturday as the Coe women's soccer team blanked 22nd-ranked Luther, 1-0, in an Iowa Conference match at Coe.

Viehman scored on a deflection after the Luther goalkeeper had blocked a shot.

MJ Winterer made seven saves in goal for the Kohawks for the shutout. Coe raised its record to 5-4.

Luther suffered its first loss and fell to 9-1.

The Coe men's soccer team lost to No.9 Luther, 4-1, Saturday.
