Coe women clip Blackburn, 1-0

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Former Linn-Mar standout Sarah Fathallah scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute and the Coe defense made it stand up as the Kohawks downed Blackburn College, 1-0, in women's soccer action here Wednesday.

Coe (4-4) dominated the play, putting 15 shots on goal compared to just one for the hosts. Kaitlyn Gordley and Katelyn Laraia split time in goal and combined for the shutout.

Ruffles replaces Jennings with Coe swimming

Coe College Director of Athletics John Chandler announced the resignation of Kohawk swimming and diving head coach Justin Jennings Wednesday.

Assistant coach Brian Ruffles has been named the new head coach of the program.

Jennings departs to take a position as assistant coach at NCAA Division I Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. Ruffles has spent the last six years as an assistant to Jennings at Coe.

“It was a very tough decision to leave Coe College. There are so many great things happening here that will continue to make Coe one of the best colleges in the country," Jennings said.

Coe spikers raise mark to 13-2

The Coe College volleyball team raised its record to 13-2 Tuesday night with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22 conquest of Buena Vista in an Iowa Conference match at Eby Fieldhouse.

Rachel Bosworth led a balanced attack with 13 kills and six blocks. MacKenzie Harbaugh contributed 37 assists and eight kills.

Rachel Schaefer collected 14 digs and four blocks. Meghan McClimon had nine kills. Brianna Smith had eight kills. Alissa Wittenburg finished with 16 digs.

The Kohawks are 2-0 in league matches. Buena Vista fell to 9-8 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Coe's Anderson, Ferree cited by IIAC

Coe College tennis players Brady Anderson and Jordan Ferree have been named Athletes of the Week by the Iowa Conference.

Anderson won the singles title at the Iowa Conference tournament at Coe this past weekend and teamed with Riley Galbraith to capture the doubles championship. Anderson, a freshman from Linn-Mar, was seeded fourth in singles but went all the way to the title.

Ferree reached the third round in singles and doubles at the ITA Midwest Regional tournament. She teamed with Laura Birky in doubles.

Coe tennis duo falls in third round

ST. PETER, Minn. - The Coe doubles team of  Laura Birky and senior Jordan Ferree picked up a second round win on Saturday before falling in the third round of the ITA Midwest Region Doubles bracket.

In the second round, Birky and Ferree defeated St. Kate's Alicia Knoll and Emily Mone 9-8 (5). With a spot in the quarterfinals on the line, Birky and Ferree dropped an 8-6 decision to fourth-seeded Bridget Bellissimo and Kimmy Mrozek of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the third round. Ferree and Birky were the lone Coe remaining entry in either singles or doubles.
