Coe women win 26th straight IIAC match

INDIANOLA - The Coe women's tennis team blanked Simpson, 9-0, Saturday for its 26th straight victory over an Iowa Conference opponent.

Amy Sebastian blitzed Michelle Hartmann at No.1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Kohawks raised their records to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Rekers stars as Coe smacks Cornell

MOUNT VERNON - The first night game for the Cornell Rams at Ash Park Stadium turned into a nightmare for the home team.

Josh Rekers passed for 343 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Coe College smacked Cornell, 50-21, in the 124th renewal of the series.

Rekers threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 36-28 loss at Wheaton, giving the 6-foot-6 junior from Dike-New Hartford a total of 660 yards and five TDs in two games.

Rekers completed 18 of 30 passes with one interception Saturday. He also scored on a 1-yard run.

Former Cedar Rapids Kennedy prep Trevor Heitland caught seven passes for 176 yards, including a 74-yard TD pass from Rekers.

Coe volleyball team splits 2 matches

ST. PETER, Minn. - The Coe College volleyball split its two matches at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament in St. Peter (Minn.) Saturday.

The Kohawks lost to Augsburg, 25-14, 27-25, 25-20 in their first contest, then topped Wisconsin-Stout 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

Rachel Schaefer had 17 kills against Wisconsin-Stout. Mackenzie Harbaugh contributed 38 assists and eight kills. Alissa Wittenburg finished with 26 digs. Brianna Smith had nine kills and Rachel Bosworth had four blocks.

The final statistics from Coe's match against Augsburg were not available.

   

No.20 Kohawks win twice at tourney

ST. PETER, Minn. - The 20th-ranked Coe volleyball team won two matches at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament Friday in St. Peter, Minn.

The Kohawks (10-1) swept Gustavus Adolphus, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17, and trimmed Bethel, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21, after losing the first game.

Coe used a balanced attack to defeat Gustavus Adolphus. Rachel Bosworth had 10 kills, Rachel Schaefer nine kills and Brianna Smith nine kills. Mackenzie Harbaugh collected 31 assists and Alissa Wittenburg contributed 18 digs.

There was more balanced scoring against Bethel. Schaefer led the way with 17 kills. Harbaugh had 12 kills and 42 assists.

Bosworth and Olivia Leisinger pitched in with 10 kills. Smith had nine more kills. Wittenburg finished with 20 digs.

Coe women top Cornell in tennis

Haley Resnick defeated Ariana Hudson, 6-4, 6-1, at No.1 singles Wednesday as the Coe women's tennis team defeated Cornell, 7-2, at the Clark Racquet Center.

Amy Sebastian, Sarah Lasecki and Kaitlin Fosler also won their singles matches for the Kohawks, who stayed undefeated at 5-0.

 

Cornell fell to 5-2.
