Coe's Lang wins Loras golf title

DUBUQUE - Coe College freshman Erin Lang shot an 85 Sunday to claim medailist honors at the Loras Invitational at Thunder Hills Country Club.

Lang topped Sydney Kilcoin of UW-Platteville by one shot.

The Kohawks finished second out of six teams at 473. Luther won the title.

Coe wins 4th league softball title

The Coe softball team captured the fourth Iowa Conference title in school history Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader from Wartburg at Clark Field, 4-0 and 5-0.

The ninth-ranked Kohawks (33-6, 11-3) also won championships in 2000, 2005 and 2013.

Coe will host the Iowa Conference tournament May 1-3.

Nicole Gentile slugged two home runs and drove in three runs for the Kohawks in the first game. Danielle Schlotterbeck also hit a home run. Maddison Woodruff (19-2) pitched a seven-hit shutout.

Arran Weeces (12-3) tossed a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in the second game. Gentile and Brianna Gardner had two hits. Abby Flannagan drove in two runs.

Coe will play Simpson or Dubuque on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Clark Field in the six-team tournament.

The Kohawks won the regular-season title by one game. Luther, Central and Simpson tied for second place with 10-4 records.

10 a.m. - Simpson (10-4) vs. Dubuque (8-6)

Noon - Central (10-4) vs. Buena Vista (5-9)

2 p.m. - Coe (11-3) vs. Simpson/Dubuque winner

Coe baseball team sweeps Luther

The Coe Kohawks exploded for 30 runs Saturday and swept Luther, 7-6 and 23-15, in an Iowa Conference doubleheader at Daniels Park.

The Kohawks (14-21, 10-16) rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win the opener. AJ Reuter went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Craig Konrardy was 3-for-3. Cole Tomlinson went 2-for-3 with a home run.

Coe scored seven runs in the first inning of the wild nightcap.

Michael Goerdt was 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Alec Zwanziger, Michael Redmond and Reuter had three hits. Zwanziger drove in four runs, while Redmond and Reuter had three RBIs. Reuter hit a home run.

Luther fell to 14-21 overall and 7-17 in the league.

   

Coe's Gunderson 3rd at IIAC golf

IOWA CITY - Tyler Gunderson of Coe sits in third place after two rounds of the Iowa Conference golf tournament.

Gunderson shot rounds of 74 and 73 at Finkbine Golf Course this weekend for a 36-hole total of 147. Eric Wolfe of Dubuque holds the lead at 140.

Dubuque leads Central College, 601-608, after two rounds. The tournament shifts to the Dubuque Golf & Country Club next week.

Coe is in sixth place at 640.

Coe women net IIAC tennis title

The Coe women's tennis team captured the Iowa Conference title Saturday and earned its third straight trip to the NCAA Division III national tournament.

The Kohawks (18-6) topped Central College, 5-0, in the semifinals and clipped Luther, 5-2, in the finals at the Clark Racquet Center.

Tai Lucero, Amy Sebastian and Laura Birky won their singles matches against Luther in the championship match. Jordan Ferree and Birky prevailed at No.1 doubles. Diannah Watson and Lucero were victorious at No.2 doubles.

The meet ended as soon as Coe accumulated five points. Two matches went unfinished.
