No. 9 Kohawks sweep Westminster

The ninth-ranked Coe softball team swept a twinbill from Westminster Wednesday at Clark Field, 6-2 and 6-1.

The Kohawks (28-5) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to snap a 2-2 tie in the opener. Abby Flannagan socked a two-run home run in the inning, her fifth roundtripper of the season.

Flannagan and Brianna Gardner both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game. Maddison Woodruff (16-2) pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts and allowed one earned run.

Gardner and Haley Smith had two hits for Coe in the second game. Arran Weeces (10-2) pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and allowed one earned run.

Westminster's record fell to 11-19.

 

Reuter, Redmond spark Kohawks to win

GRINNELL - AJ Reuter and former Linn-Mar standout Michael Redmond went 3-for-5 Tuesday as Coe defeated Grinnell, 7-3, in a non-conference baseball game at Pioneer Park in Grinnell.

Reuter collected a double, home run and three RBIs.

Cole Tomlinson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Craig Konrardy went 2-for-2 with a double. Ben Larison scored two runs.

Ben Jacobson, Tony Becker, Jack Hoffmann and Jacob Schletzbaum combined on a five-hitter for the Kohawks (11-15). Jacobson got the win.

 

 

Hobbs will play hoops for Kohawks

Aleena Hobbs of Cedar Rapids Washington has decided to continue her basketball career at Coe College, she announced Monday.

"I've finally made my decision!," she said in an e-mail. "I've decided to attend Coe College and play basketball for Coach (Randi) Peterson.

"Looking forward to being a part of Coach P's program and getting a great education at Coe," she said. "I'll be close to home, so my family will be able to watch me play."

Peterson led the Kohawks to a 16-11 record this season and a berth in the conference finals.

Hobbs, 5-foot-10, averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Warriors this season. She also collected 55 steals, 35 assists and 17 blocks.

Hobbs was named second team all-state in Class 5A, first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference. The Warriors finished 18-5 and won a conference title.

Coe splits baseball doubleheader with Loras

DUBUQUE — Craig Konrardy went 5-for-6 and drove in four runs as Coe College belted Loras, 12-2, in the second game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Dubuque on Saturday.

Loras won the first game, 6-5, on a grand slam homer by Patrick Walsh in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Michael Redmond was 4-for-6 with two RBIs for the Kohawks (10-15, 7-11) in the second game. Colton Janssen was 3-for-5, AJ Reuter was 2-for-5 and Cole Tomlinson was 2-for-6 with three RBIs. Michael Golinski (3-0) pitched a complete nine-inning game for Coe.

Reuter went 4-for-4 in the first game, making him 6-for-9 in the twinbill. Redmond was 3-for-3 in Game 1, making him 7-for-9 in the doubleheader. Michael Goerdt was 2-for-3.

Loras finished the day at 13-10 overall and 11-5 in the league.

Coe softball team drops 2 games

DECORAH —  The ninth-ranked Coe College softball team lost a pair of tough games to No.8 Luther in an Iowa Conference doubleheader in Decorah on Saturday.

Luther won the first game, 8-6, in eight innings. Luther took the nightcap, 3-2.

Erin Lang was used as a pinch-hitter and delivered a two-run single for Coe in the first game. Maddison Woodruff (15-2) was touched for 14 hits and all eight runs.

The Kohawks (26-5, 6-2) had only three hits in the second game. Arran Weeces (9-2) took the loss.

Luther raised its records to 19-6 overall and 4-4 in the league.
