Flannagan belts 2 game-winning homers

Most ballplayers dream about hitting a game-winning home run for their team.

Abby Flannagan did it twice Wednesday.

Coe swept Simpson, 1-0 and 2-1 in 10 innings, thanks to Flannagan's clutch hitting and outstanding pitching by Maddison Woodruff and Arran Weeces.

The first game was tied, 0-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning when Flannagan socked her third homer of the season for a 1-0 lead. Woodruff put the finishing touches on her one-hitter in the top of the seventh for the 1-0 triumph.

The second game was tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the 10th inning when Flannagan delivered again for a walk-off victory with her fourth homer of the year.

Nicole Gentile kept Coe alive in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game with a solo homer to tie the game, 1-1, and force extra innings.

Woodruff struck out nine batters and walked two during her one-hitter in the opener. Weeces pitched the first nine innings of the nightcap and allowed one run with 11 strikeouts.

Woodruff pitched the top of the 10th inning and got the victory when Flannagan connected in the bottom of the 10th, raising Woodruff's record to 15-1.

Coe raised its records to 26-3 overall and 6-0 in the Iowa Conference. Simpson fell to 16-12 overall and 3-3 in the league.
