Coe softball team sweeps Dubuque

DUBUQUE — Maddison Woodruff and Arran Weeces tossed four-hitters Saturday as the Coe softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Dubuque in Dubuque.

Woodruff (12-1) pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts in a 3-2 victory in the first game, then Weeces followed suit with another four-hitter with five strikeouts in a 4-1 triumph in the second contest.

Danielle Schlotterbeck drove in two runs for the Kohawks (22-3, 4-0) in the first game. Nicole Gentile scored twice and Abby Flannagan was 2-for-4.

Schlotterbeck went 2-for-4 in the second game and Gentile scored two more runs.

Dubuque fell to 15-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Coe netters stay perfect in IIAC

DECORAH — Noah Sprinkel, Riley Galbraith, Ryan Hickman, Sean Stokstad and Michael Janssen won their singles matches in straight sets Saturday as Coe defeated Luther, 7-2, in an Iowa Conference tennis meet in Decorah.

Sprinkel defeated Ramesh Karki, 6-2, 7-5 at No.1 singles.

Coe raised its records to 19-4 overall and 5-0 in the league. Luther fell to 16-5 and 2-1 with its first conference setback.

Alberhasky tosses 3-hitter for Coe

Connor Alberhasky pitched a three-hit shutout Saturday as Coe College blanked the University of Dubuque, 3-0, in the first game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader at Daniels Park in Cedar Rapids.

Dubuque (8-11, 4-4) took the second game, 10-0, on a two-hitter by Josh Eastman.

Alberhasky (2-2) struck out six batters and walked two in the opener. Jory Heckenberg drove in two runs, and Michael Redmond went 2-for-3 for the Kohawks (6-11, 3-7).

Dubuque and Coe are scheduled for another twinbill Sunday at 1 p.m. at Daniels Park.

16 Kohawks earn IIAC academic honors

Sixteen student-athletes from Coe College have received All-Academic recognition from the Iowa Conference for the winter sports.

Luther had the most selections with 21. Coe was second with its 16, followed by Dubuque (11), Wartburg (10), Loras (9), Buena Vista (7), Simpson (7) and Central (6).

Lindsey Jipp, Mary Halvorson and Brooke Wheelwright were honored from the Coe women's basketball. Lindsey Meade, Kenni Sterns, Kendallyn Recker and Kenzy Wagenbach were honored from the women's swimming team.

Six members of the Coe men's basketball team were saluted with Matthew Daoust, David Delgado, Sean Pyritz, Sam Stix, JT Vonderhaar and Brian Wadsworth. Kirk Owens and Casey Rohret were honored in wrestling and Justin Sauter was honored in men's swimming.

No.9 Kohawks sweep Loras

The ninth-ranked Coe softball team swept Loras, 6-1 and 11-3, in the Iowa Conference opener for both teams Tuesday at Clark Field in Cedar Rapids.

Maddison Woodruff (11-1) pitched a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts and only one walk in the first game for the Kohawks. Nicole Gentile was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Brianna Gardner was 2-for-2 and scored two runs.

Haley Smith went 3-for-4, belted two home runs and had four RBIs in the second game. Abby Flannagan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Gentile drove in two more runs. Danielle Schlotterbeck, Alison Givens and McCall Meade had two hits. Arran Weeces (7-1) was the winning pitcher.

Coe raised its overall record to 20-3. Loras fell to 10-10.
