HAMMOND, Ind. - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team battled Purdue-Calumet for nearly two hours in the heat Saturday and finished with a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
Julia Roedel gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 23th minute of the match, but Purdue-Calumet tied the contest with an "own goal" early in the second half when a Mount Mercy player inadvertently put the ball in her own net.
It stayed 1-1 for all 90 minutes of regulation and neither team scored in the 10-minute overtime sessions.
Hannah Schroeder made 14 saves for Mount Mercy. The Mustangs have a 3-2-1 record so far this season.
